How to apply for e-PAN using Aadhaar card?

Don’t have a PAN card yet? There is no reason to panic. At present applying for and getting a PAN card is much easier than how it was earlier. The only criterion is that you must have a valid Aadhaar card. The Aadhaar is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and is considered one of the most valid of all documents for an Indian citizen to prove his/her identity.

The e-PAN card is issued based on Aadhaar eKYC. The eKYC is done through Aadhaar authentication where the details of the individual get submitted to the UIDAI to confirm his/her identity.

  • This facility does not have any charges attached and is paperless. 
  • You do not have upload any additional documents to get an instant PAN.
  • Your mobile number must be linked to your Aadhaar.
  • Aadhaar based eKYC allows you to get your e-PAN in almost real-time.
  • You could get it in 10 minutes if you have satisfied all the required criteria.
  • You get the e-PAN as a soft copy.
  • The e-PAN has a QR code and holds the personal and demographic details of an individual.
  • The details can be accessed with the help of a QR code reader.
  • You can make use of this facility only if you’ve never applied for a PAN card before.

Steps For Applying For e-PAN Using Aadhaar


You need to follow the steps given below to apply for an instant PAN.

  • Log on to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  • Click on the option ‘Quick Link’.
  • Now you have to select ‘Instant PAN through Aadhaar’.
  • Select the option ’Get New PAN’.
  • Type in your Aadhaar number and enter the Captcha code.
  • Click on the ‘confirm’ button.
  • A checkbox confirmation has to be made by the applicant. You need to agree to the following:
  1.  A PAN card has never been allotted to you.
  2. Full date of birth in the DD/MM/YY format: As recorded in your Aadhaar.
  3. You are not a minor.
  4. Your Aadhaar and mobile number is linked.
  5. The terms and conditions have been read and understood by you.
  • Select the option ‘Generate OTP’.
  • You’ll receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
  • Type in the OTP where required.
  • You need to validate and confirm the details given on you Aadhaar.
  • Make sure the Name, Address, Date of birth and the other details are right.
  • On successful submission, you'll receive an acknowledgement number through a text message and an e-mail if you've mentioned your email ID as well.

Steps To Download e-PAN


To download your e-PAN, follow the steps given below:

  • Log on to www.incomegytaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  • From the section ‘Quick Links’ Select the option ‘Instant PAN (e-PAN) through Aadhaar’.
  • Select the option ‘Check the Status of PAN’.
  • In the given space type in your Acknowledgement number.
  • You’ll receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
  • Type in the OTP in the space given.
  • Check and confirm if the e-PAN has been allotted or not
  • If you have been allotted the instant PAN, you can download a copy of the same by clicking on the link to download it.
