Aadhaar card updation for children - All you need to know


Issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the Aadhaar card is one of the most reliable of all documents that serve as the proof of identity for an Indian resident. The Aadhaar card has a unique number for identification. Besides, the biometric information and the demographic details of the individual are also attached.

The identity of a person living in India can be established through the process of Aadhaar authentication. Provisions have been made by the UIDAI to include all the residents in India under the Aadhaar ekyc scheme. There are no age-restrictions which means even a new-born child in India is also eligible for this.

The Process Of Enrollment For A Child Below 5 Years


  • Fill an Aadhaar Enrollment Form and submit at the nearest Centre for Aadhaar Enrollment.
  • The Aadhaar details of one of the parents are necessary to enrol a child below 5 years.
  • The demographic information is entered using the details from the parent’s Aadhaar.
  • Submit the required documents (A birth certificate is mandatory).
  • A photograph of the child will be taken.
  • Biometric scan of the child is not taken if he/she is below 5 years of age.
  • Collect the acknowledgement slip from the executive at the enrollment centre.
  • The generation status can be checked using the enrollment number.
  • You’ll receive your child’s Aadhaar within in 90 days.

Process Of Enrollment For A Child Above 5 Years


  • Submit the duly filled Aadhaar enrollment form along with the supporting documents.
  • The birth certificate of the child is mandatory.
  • Mention the Aadhaar number of any one of the parents along with the details of residential address. (In case the child does not have any proof of address).
  • The executive at the enrollment centre takes the biometric scan of the child. (Iris scan and fingerprint scan of all the10 fingers).
  • You’ll receive an acknowledgement slip that contains the Aadhaar enrollment number.
  • The status of your child’s document status can be checked using this enrollment number.
  • You’ll get the Aadhaar card within 90 days at the address mentioned in your application.

The Documents Required For A Child Below 5 Years


The following documents have to be submitted while applying for an Aadhaar card for a child who is below 5 years of age.

  • The original birth certificate of the child.
  • The original Aadhaar identity card of one of the parents.

Documents Required For A Child Between The Age Of 5 And 15


  1. The original birth certificate of the child.
  2. Proof of identity (One of the following)
  • Student Identity card issued by the school.
  • Aadhaar card of one of the parents.
  • Identity certificate from a gazetted officer on their letterhead with the attached photograph of the child applicant.

Are There Any Charges For Aadhaar Enrollment And Updation?


  • The applicant does not have to pay any fees for the Aadhaar enrollment of a child.
  • The government bears the costs involved.
  • The applicant has to pay an amount of Rs.30/- for the updation of demographic details of a child who is between 5 years and 15 years.
  • However, there are no charges for the updation of biometric information during this period (5 years-15 years).

Remember, the biometric data of the child has to be updated on the database of the UIDAI once she/he turns 15 years of age.
