How to download Aadhaar card from the UIDAI website?

Issued by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) the Aadhaar card is necessary to receive subsidies as well as several governmental benefits. Aadhaar is one of the most important of all documents to prove the identity of an Indian citizen. Aadhaar eKYC helps in establishing the identity of the individual in real-time.

An individual can now download her/his e-Aadhaar from the official website of the UIDAI. Your e-Aadhaar is considered as a valid proof of identity and it's treated just like a printed Aadhaar card. Aadhaar is now being widely used to carry out eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) to open a loan account, bank account, to apply for a passport, to apply for a PAN card etc.

Aadhaar eKYC is carried out through the process of Aadhaar authentication. In the process of Aadhaar authentication, the demographic and biometric details of the individual get submitted to the UIDAI. The UIDAI responds with a 'Yes'/'No' confirming her/his identity. How To Download e-Aadhaar Using Aadhaar Number?


Follow the steps given below to download your Aadhaar using your Aadhaar number.

  1. Log on to the official website of UIDAI: https://uidai.gov.in/
  2. Click on the option ‘My Aadhaar’ and select ‘Download Aadhaar’.
  3. Type your Aadhaar number (12 digits).
  4. To download a Masked Aadhaar select the option ‘I Want A Masked Aadhaar’.
  5. Type in the ‘Captcha Code’.
  6. Select the option ‘Send OTP’.
  7. You’ll receive the OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
  8. Type in the OTP received.
  9. Select the option ‘Verify and Download'.
  10. A PDF file will be downloaded which is password-protected.
  11. The password is the first for letters of your Name (In Caps) followed by the year of your birth (YYYY format).

Downloading e-Aadhaar Using VID (Virtual ID)


To download your Aadhaar using a VID you need to follow the steps given below.

  1. Log on to https://uidai.gov.in/
  2. Select ‘Download Aadhaar’.
  3. Click on ‘I Have’ and select the option ‘VID’.
  4. Type in your VID, name, security code and pin code.
  5. Select the option ‘Send OTP’.
  6. Type in the OTP received and select ‘Verify and Download’.
  7. E-Aadhaar will be downloaded as a PDF file.
  8. Enter the 8 digit password to access it.

How To Download Your e-Aadhaar Using Your EID (Enrolment Number)?


You can also download your e-Aadhaar using EID. Follow the steps given below.

  1. Log on to https://uidai.gov.in/
  2. Select the option ‘Download Aadhaar’.
  3. Type in your EID (14 Digits) followed by the values of time and date (14 Digits).
  4. Type in your pin code, full name and Captcha Code.
  5. Select the option ‘Send OTP’.
  6. Type in the OTP received and select the option ‘Download Aadhaar’.
  7. Type in the password to get access to the e-Aadhaar downloaded as a PDF file.

Things To Keep In Mind


  • You must have your Aadhaar number/EID/VID to download your e-Aadhaar.
  • You must have a mobile number registered with the UIDAI to download e-Aadhaar.
  • You require an OTP to download the Aadhaar which is sent to this number.
  • Aadhaar gets downloaded to your system in a PDF file format and is protected by a password.
  • The 8 digit password includes the first 4 letters of your name followed by the year of your birth.

Remember, to have access to the PDF file you need to type in the password. Only then can you can take a printout of the e-Aadhaar.
