The Aadhaar contains a unique 12-digit number for identification along with the photograph, personal details, biometric information, and the demographic details of the Aadhaar holder. This means your Aadhaar must be free from errors and the information stored needs to be updated whenever there is a requirement.
There are two ways by which you can make corrections or update the information stored on your Aadhaar card.
- Through the SSUP (Self Service Update Portal) on UIDAI’s official website.
- By visiting the Aadhaar Seva Kendra/Aadhaar Enrollment Center closest to you.

To change the photograph on your Aadhaar card you need to follow the steps are given below.
- Log on to the official website of UIDAI.
- Download the Aadhaar Enrollment Form.
- Fill in the details correctly.
- Approach an Aadhaar Seva Kendra/ Aadhaar Enrollment Center closest to your location.
- Submit the form to the executive at the enrollment centre.
- Your biometric details will be collected.
- To update/change your photograph a live photograph of yours will be captured by the executive.
- Your biometric details must be provided for verification and approval of your request.
- For updating the information on your Aadhaar you need to pay a fee of Rs 25 along with the GST.
- Once the request has been approved you’ll be given an acknowledgement slip with an Update Request Number (URN).
- Using the URN you can check the status of your update.
- Once the updation has been completed you can download the updated Aadhaar card online.
How to Download the Updated Aadhaar Online?
On successful updation of your request, you can download your Aadhaar card online.
- Log on to the official website of UIDAI.
- https://uidai.gov.in/.
- Click on ‘Get Aadhaar’ and select ‘Download Aadhaar’.
- Select the option ‘Aadhaar Number’.
- Type in your Aadhaar number and CAPTCHA Code.
- Click on ‘Send OTP’.
- Type in OTP and click on ‘Submit’.
- Download your e-Aadhaar.
Remember to update your details on the mAadhaar app and DigiLocker
app as well.
Points To Remember
Keep in mind the following things while updating your photograph on Aadhaar card.
- Online updation of the photograph is not possible.
- You cannot update it through the SSUP (Self Service Update Portal).
- You have to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra in person.
- You do not have to submit any documents to change your photograph.
- Your photograph is captured live by the executive using a webcam.
- Therefore, you do not have to submit your photograph for updation.
- A maximum of 90 days is required to get your Aadhaar updated.

The identity of the individual is confirmed by carrying out Aadhaar based online KYC. Aadhaar online eKYC is done through Aadhaar authentication where the biometric details and the demographic information of the Aadhaar holder are submitted to the UIDAI for the confirmation of her/his identity. The UIDAI compares the submitted details with the information stored on their Aadhaar database and responds with a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
